Stephen Scott Newby, know to friends family and those that best knew him as “Scott” passed away the evening of February 10, 2009 in Oklahoma City. Born to John O. Newby and Morene K. Larrison on July 13 1959 in Wichita, KS, Scott grew up in Springfield, MO then spent the last 15 years in Yukon/Piedmont, OK area.
Scott was an active member of Piedmont First United Methodist Church and Boy Scott Troop 390. He also served on the governing boards of the UCO Wesley Foundation and the Canadian County 4-H Freedom Riders Drill Team. Scott also supported the National Rifle Association and the G.O.P.
Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating working outside, being with friends and family and creating laughter.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Orland and Inez Newby and Morris and Irene Larrison. He is survived by his father John Newby and wife Judy of Springfield, MO; mother Morene Larrison of Wichita, KS; sister Shari Johnson and husband Earl of Branson West, MO; wife Mary Newby of the home; son Greg Newby of Edmond, OK ; daughters Caroline Newby of Yukon, OK and Christine Newby of the home and numerous extended family
A memorial service was held at Piedmont First United Methodist Church in Piedmont, OK February 13; he was interred at Kansas Cemetery in Eastern Canadian County.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Scott Newby Memorial Fund at F & M Bank, PO Box 68, Piedmont, OK 73078. Funds will go to support several of Scott’s favorite causes, including the church, Wesley Foundation and Boy Scouts of America.
